Frequently asked questions about outdoor shade

What is the difference between a parasol, a tensioned canopy and a shade net?

A professional parasol is a self-supporting structure with a mast and fabric that opens and closes: ideal for hospitality terraces where flexibility and mobility are required. A tensioned canopy is a fixed structure of technical fabric anchored to fixing points: a permanent architectural solution for covering large surfaces with high visual impact. A shade net is a permeable technical mesh that filters solar radiation whilst maintaining maximum ventilation: ideal for pool areas, pergolas and spaces where waterproofing is not required.

The Jayma system is a product patented by Cortinsa designed for gardens and large terraces. It consists of a central structure from which one or two awnings extend, covering up to 50 m² without perimeter columns. It is the preferred solution for private gardens of detached homes, medium-sized hospitality terraces, and spaces where no supports are wanted around the perimeter of the shaded area.

Yes. Glatz professional parasols are certified for outdoor use in windy conditions. Depending on the model, wind resistance varies between 35 and 75 km/h in the open position with fixed ground anchoring. For installations in wind-exposed locations, we always recommend fixed anchoring using a ground sleeve or concrete base, rather than a ballasted base. Our team advises on the most suitable fixing system for each location.

Yes. Glatz parasols are available with concrete or granite ballast bases that require no drilling into the floor or any masonry work. They are the standard choice for hospitality terraces where intervention in the floor surface is not possible or not desired. For permanent installations or in exposed, windy locations, we recommend fixed anchoring via a recessed floor socket, which provides greater stability and wind resistance.

Yes. We have technical data sheets with certified solar factor and BIM files in Revit (.rfa) and IFC format for the main systems we install. All documentation is available free of charge in our BIM Library for registered architects, engineers and interior designers. We also provide technical advice during the specification phase for new-build and refurbishment projects.
