The shade net is manufactured from interwoven monofilament high-density polyethylene (HDPE), with pigments that absorb or reflect solar radiation. This material was originally developed to control light levels in agricultural crops, and its technical performance — tear resistance, dimensional stability and outdoor durability — makes it equally suitable for use on terraces, gardens and pergolas.
The camouflage shade mesh version — with a weave that imitates the military pattern in green, brown and earth tones — is the most in-demand format for residential and hospitality installations. The camouflage net for terraces or pergolas combines a shading function with a natural, organic visual effect that integrates seamlessly into gardens, planted spaces and terraces with a rustic or Mediterranean concept. It is also available in white and other neutral colours for more contemporary design settings.
When correctly installed, the shade net acts simultaneously as a solar barrier, wind filter, dust screen and partial protection against insects. The shading percentage depends on mesh density: more open specifications allow greater airflow; denser ones provide more shade and greater protection against lateral wind.
The garden shade nets are cut and finished to measure according to the exact dimensions of the space. The perimeter is reinforced with polypropylene tape and metal eyelets for tensioning, adapting to any anchoring configuration: pergola structure, façade, masts or metal frames. Cortinsa supplies and installs the net fully finished.

A shade net is a high-density polyethylene mesh that is tensioned between fixed points to intercept solar radiation. Unlike an awning — which is a retractable opaque canvas with an opening mechanism — a shade net is fixed, semi-permeable and allows partial passage of air and light according to its density. It is a more economical, lightweight and versatile solution, with no moving parts or motorisation.
Yes. UV-stabilised high-density polyethylene retains its properties for years in outdoor use. The pigments in the camouflage pattern are resistant to fading caused by solar radiation. Service life depends on the density and quality of the mesh, but under normal outdoor conditions it is common to exceed 5–8 years without significant loss of properties.
Yes, partially. Installed on the sides of a pergola or terrace, the shade net acts as a windbreak that reduces wind speed without blocking it completely — which avoids the pressure effect generated by opaque canvases. It is particularly useful on terraces with lateral wind exposure where ventilation is desired but bothersome draughts need to be reduced.
