Why the Glatz Alexo Parasol is different

Ash wood frame: unique in the range

The Glatz Alexo is the only wooden parasol in the Glatz range. Its 10-piece frame in ash wood with a clear varnish finish and white fibreglass ribs set it radically apart from all other aluminium models in the range. The nickel-plated brass crown joint for tilting is another artisan detail found on no other model in the range.

Push Up opening and leather corners

Opening is achieved via the Push Up system: pressing the slider upwards deploys the parasol in a single movement. The fabric corners are reinforced with leather, a craftsmanship detail that extends the life of the cover and underlines the model’s classic identity.

Tilt via crown joint

The canopy tilts by means of a nickel-plated brass crown joint integrated into the mast, allowing the shade to be adjusted to the position of the sun. A precision mechanism that has been refined since 1931 and is exclusive to the Alexo throughout the entire Glatz range.

A classic for unusual concepts

Designed for compact outdoor spaces with character: concept terraces, private gardens with personality, boutique restaurants, or any space where a distinctive parasol is sought. Customisable with special fabrics, Glatz Green® fabric, valances, and advertising prints.

Glatz Alexo Parasol: the classic ash-wood model with over 90 years of history

The Glatz Alexo: an icon since 1931

The Glatz Alexo parasol is the most singular model in the entire Glatz range: the only wooden parasol in the collection, introduced in 1931 and refined over more than 90 years without losing its essence. Its 10-piece structure in ash wood with a clear lacquer finish, fibreglass crossbars and a nickel-plated brass crown gear joint make it a piece of artisan craftsmanship within a range dominated by aluminium. Glatz describes it as “the classic and perfect parasol for unusual concepts” and as a model that “convinces through its unique effect and charisma”. Browse the full Glatz parasol range if you are looking for other options.

Available in two compact formats — Ø 200 cm (2.9 m²) and Ø 220 cm (3.6 m²) — it is designed for compact outdoor surfaces where reduced size and aesthetics are decisive factors. The minimum required base is just 30 kg, making installation straightforward without groundworks on garden terraces, inner courtyards and concept spaces. For installations in larger areas with greater coverage requirements, side-post alternatives or bioclimatic pergolas are the usual solutions.

Push Up system and crown joint: the mechanics of a classic

The Glatz Alexo uses the Push Up opening system: by pressing the slider upwards, the parasol unfolds in a single intuitive movement. Unlike the crank systems found on aluminium models, the Push Up is the traditional mechanism that has defined the Alexo from the outset, valued by its users for its immediacy and simplicity.

Roof inclination is achieved via the nickel-plated brass crown gear joint integrated into the mast — a mechanism of artisan precision that exists in no other model in the Glatz range. The fabric corners are reinforced with leather, a constructive detail that extends the durability of the canopy and sets the Alexo apart from mass-produced parasols. For concept hospitality spaces where aesthetics are the priority, the Alexo can also be personalised with printed branding and Glatz Green® fabric. For hospitality and HORECA projects where wind resistance is paramount, models from the F Pro line are the most suitable alternative.

For spaces where design is the primary criterion

The Glatz Alexo is not the right parasol for terraces exposed to wind — its certified resistance is 20 km/h with fixed anchoring. It is, however, the right parasol for sheltered private gardens, inner courtyards, boutique restaurants and concept spaces where the choice of parasol forms part of the aesthetic identity of the setting. Its compact format (maximum Ø 220 cm), lightweight base (30 kg) and wooden construction make it a piece that sits well alongside high-end garden furniture, historic spaces and exterior interior-design projects where industrial aluminium does not fit. As official Glatz distributor in Barcelona and Madrid, Cortinsa advises on the suitability of the Alexo for each project and its combination with other outdoor shading elements.

Frequently asked questions about the Glatz Alexo Parasol

How does the Glatz Alexo differ from the other Glatz parasols?

The Glatz Alexo is the only ash wood parasol in the entire Glatz range. While the rest of the models feature an aluminium structure, the Alexo uses 10 pieces of wood with a colourless varnish finish and fibreglass crossbars. In addition, its opening system is Push Up (not a crank), the tilt is achieved via a nickel-plated brass crown gear joint, and the fabric corners are reinforced with leather. It is the oldest model in the Glatz range, introduced in 1931. Explore the rest of the range in our Glatz parasols section.

The Alexo is not designed for spaces that are highly exposed to wind. Its maximum certified resistance is 20 km/h (Beaufort 4) with fixed ground anchoring, the lowest in the Glatz range. It is intended for compact, sheltered outdoor spaces: private gardens with hedges or walls, interior courtyards, protected terraces. If your space is regularly exposed to wind, the aluminium models in the Glatz range offer greater resistance.

The Glatz Alexo is suited to spaces where aesthetics and character are the priority: designer private gardens, interior courtyards, boutique restaurants, charming hotels and concept terraces. Glatz describes it as “the classic and perfect parasol for unusual concepts” and as a model that “wins over with its unique effect and charisma”. It is not the right model for high-turnover hospitality terraces or spaces with significant wind exposure.

The Glatz Alexo requires a minimum base of 30 kg in both available formats (Ø 200 cm and Ø 220 cm). It is the lightest base requirement in the entire Glatz range, making installation and repositioning straightforward without any groundwork. Compatible with ground socket bases and freestanding bases.

Yes. The Alexo accepts printed and advertising designs on the cover, as well as special valances and bespoke edging. It is also available with Glatz Green® eco fabric and third-party flame-retardant textiles. Covers are replaceable and interchangeable. Cortinsa manages these customisations directly with Glatz AG.

No. On the Glatz Alexo, the protective cover is an optional accessory, not included as standard. Since the structure is made of wood, protecting it when not in use —especially during periods of rain or winter— is particularly recommended to extend its service life. Cortinsa can advise you on the most suitable accessories.
