Why the Glatz Fortano Parasol is different

Contract side-post mast: clear space beneath the canopy

The Glatz Fortano is a side-post parasol for contract use: the pole sits outside the shaded area, leaving the entire space beneath the canopy completely free for tables, chairs, and circulation. Its continuous mast profile down to the paving, with integrated fixing tube, provides structural rigidity and a clean-looking installation.

Patented synchronous opening: fast and effortless

Glatz’s patented opening mechanism simultaneously opens and extends the parasol canopy with just a few turns of the crank. The resulting high closing height allows the parasol to be folded without moving the terrace furniture — essential in hospitality settings with continuous service.

55 km/h certified and suitable for corrosive environments

Wind-tunnel tested with resistance up to 55 km/h with fixed anchoring in the 300×300 cm format. Manufactured in EN-AW-6063-T5 aluminium with A2 stainless-steel hardware and a rectangular-profile mast of 66×95 mm. Suitable for corrosive environments: coastal and high-density urban installations.

Harmonisable design and optional 360° rotation

The Fortano harmonises visually with all Glatz giant parasols and with the F range, making it straightforward to specify projects featuring multiple parasols of different types. With the optional M4 rotating base accessory, the parasol can rotate 360° to orientate the shade according to the sun’s position.

Glatz Fortano Parasol: wind-resistant side-post parasol for hospitality and contract spaces

The Glatz Fortano: the professional side-post parasol for large areas

The Glatz Fortano parasol is the largest side-post parasol for contract use in the Glatz range, available in 300×300 cm (9 m²) and 400×300 cm (12 m²) formats. Unlike residential side-post parasols, the Fortano is designed for permanent installations in hospitality venues, public spaces, rooftop terraces, and high-traffic outdoor areas where stability and durability are paramount. Browse the full range of professional Glatz parasols to compare large-format options.

Its design is visually harmonised with the giant parasols in the Glatz range and with the F Pro line, making it straightforward to specify projects where side-post and centre-post parasols coexist. The continuous mast profile extending to floor level — with an integrated fixing tube — and the 66×95 mm rectangular mast with 3 mm wall thickness are structural features that set it apart from every other model in the range, delivering rigidity unmatched in its category.

Patented synchronous opening: fast service in action

Glatz’s patented synchronous opening mechanism simultaneously opens and extends the parasol canopy with just a few turns of the crank handle. The result is a high folded height that allows the Fortano to be closed without moving tables or chairs — a genuine operational advantage on a restaurant terrace with continuous service. For hospitality projects requiring a comprehensive solution, visit our hospitality and HORECA solutions page.

Opening is carried out by manual crank. The protective cover tensioning is automatic, thanks to the flexible ends of the cross-arms, with no manual adjustment required. Covers are replaceable and interchangeable, making aesthetic refreshes possible without replacing the structure.

Wind resistance and approval for corrosive environments

The Glatz Fortano has been wind-tunnel tested, achieving 55 km/h (Beaufort 7) in the 300×300 cm format and 45 km/h in the 400×300 cm format, both with fixed ground anchoring. The minimum base required is 180 kg for both formats — significantly higher than other side-post models — reflecting the structural robustness demanded by this type of contract installation. The EN-AW-6063-T5 anodised aluminium structure with A2 stainless steel fixings is certified for corrosive environments, making it suitable for terraces on the seafront, marinas, and high-salinity urban locations. For projects requiring greater structural coverage, bioclimatic pergolas are the usual complementary solution.

Cortinsa, official Glatz distributor in Barcelona and Madrid

As official Glatz distributor in Barcelona and Madrid, Cortinsa advises on specifying the most suitable contract side-post parasol for each project. The choice between the 300×300 and 400×300 cm format, the anchoring system, the optional rotating base, and fabric customisations — including Glatz Green®, flame-retardant textiles, and printed branding — are all decisions Cortinsa supports with a technical site visit and a comprehensive proposal.

The Glatz Fortano is compatible with the same base systems as the other Glatz giant parasols, making it easy to standardise the parasol range across multi-unit projects. For exterior solar protection projects over large areas, visit our professional outdoor shading section.

Frequently asked questions about the Glatz Fortano Parasol

What spaces is the Glatz Fortano designed for?

The Glatz Fortano is designed for contract use in hospitality, public spaces and large-surface terraces. Unlike residential side-post parasols, the Fortano is intended for permanent installations requiring generous coverage — up to 12 m² —, high wind resistance and intensive daily use. It is ideal for restaurant terraces, hotels, pool areas and outdoor spaces that demand a long-lasting solution. Discover more options in our range of Glatz parasols for hospitality
The Glatz Fortano requires a minimum base of 180 kg in both available formats (300×300 cm and 400×300 cm). It is one of the most demanding base requirements across the entire Glatz range, reflecting the scale and weight of the structure. This minimum base is necessary to achieve the maximum wind speeds indicated; with fixed ground anchoring, stability is superior.

The fundamental difference is the type of mast: the Glatz Fortero and the Glatz Fortello are central-mast parasols, whereas the Fortano has a side mast, leaving the entire shaded area free of obstructions. The Fortano also stands out for its rectangular mast profile (66×95 mm, unique in the range) and its patented synchronous opening mechanism.

Yes, but the 360° rotation is an optional accessory: the M4 rotating base. The standard parasol does not include this rotation system. With the rotating base fitted, the Fortano can be oriented in any direction around the mast without needing to move the base. This is a particularly useful option on terraces with changing sun exposure throughout the day.

Yes. The Fortano’s structure is manufactured in anodised aluminium EN-AW-6063-T5 with stainless steel fixings, materials certified for corrosive environments. This is one of the model’s new features: its suitability for installations on the seafront, in marinas, and in coastal areas with high salinity where other parasols deteriorate prematurely.
Yes. The Fortano accepts printed and advertising graphics on the cover, as well as special technical fabrics, including the ecological fabric Glatz Green® and certified fire-retardant textiles for projects requiring compliance with fire-prevention regulations. Cortinsa manages these productions directly with Glatz AG for hospitality and contract space projects.
