Why the Glatz Pendalex Parasol is Different

Side arm: shade without a central mast

The Pendalex P+ is a side-arm parasol: the mast is positioned outside the shaded area, leaving the space beneath the canopy completely clear. Ideal for garden tables, relaxation areas and terraces where a central pole would be an obstruction.

360° rotation and 90° tilt

The canopy rotates continuously 360° around the mast and tilts up to 90° in any direction via an anodised aluminium ball-joint articulation. This allows precise shade orientation throughout the day without moving the parasol.

Height adjustment with integrated gas spring

An integrated gas compression spring in the mast allows the canopy to be raised or lowered by up to 50 cm effortlessly. The handle height adjusts between 146 and 196 cm, adapting to different furniture heights and users.

Available in natural and anthracite

Frame available in natural anodised aluminium or anthracite powder coating. Protective cover included as standard. Compatible with Osyrion battery-powered LED spot lighting.

Glatz Pendalex Parasol: flexible shade without a central pole for garden and terrace

The Glatz Pendalex: the all-rounder of garden parasols

The Glatz Pendalex P+ parasol is the most versatile side-arm model in the Glatz range for residential use. Unlike central-pole parasols, the Pendalex positions the post to the side of the space, leaving the shaded area completely free of obstructions. This makes it the ideal solution for garden terraces with dining tables, relaxation areas, and any space where a central pole would be inconvenient. Browse the full range of available Glatz parasols to find the model that best suits your space.

The Pendalex P+ has existed since 1959, when Glatz registered the patent for the world’s first side-arm parasol. More than 65 years later, it remains the reference model in its category. It is available in four sizes, from 6.6 m² (285×230 cm) to 9.6 m² (Ø 350 cm), covering the needs of the majority of residential gardens and terraces.

360° rotation and tilt in every direction

The most valued feature of the Pendalex P+ is its orientation system: the canopy rotates continuously through 360° around the pole and tilts up to 90° in any direction thanks to its anodised aluminium ball-joint articulation. This allows the shade to follow the position of the sun throughout the day without moving the parasol or its base. For south- or west-facing terraces where the sun moves rapidly during the afternoon, this functionality makes a real difference. If you are looking for more structural protection for larger spaces, bioclimatic pergolas are the usual alternative in luxury residential projects.

Opening and closing is operated via an integrated rotary crank in the carrier arm, with high-performance PTFE guides that ensure smooth operation even in the largest sizes.

Gas-spring height adjustment: tool-free convenience

The integrated gas compression spring allows the canopy height to be adjusted over a 50 cm range — between 146 and 196 cm crank height — without any tools. This makes it possible to adapt the parasol to different furniture heights, which is particularly useful in gardens with outdoor sofas, sun loungers, or tables of varying heights. For luxury residential projects where detail and functionality are a priority, the Pendalex is a popular choice.

Frequently asked questions about the Glatz Pendalex Parasol

What advantage does a side-arm parasol have over a central-mast one?

The main advantage of a side-arm parasol such as the Glatz Pendalex is that the mast sits outside the shaded area, leaving the entire space beneath the canopy free of obstructions. This makes it easy to arrange tables, chairs or sun loungers without having to design the layout around the pole. In addition, with 360° rotation, it adapts to the position of the sun throughout the day. Browse our full range of Glatz parasols to compare options.

Yes. The Pendalex rotates continuously 360° around the mast, allowing the shade to be directed in any direction without moving the base. This is one of its most valued features in gardens and terraces where the sun’s position changes significantly between morning and afternoon.
Yes. The Pendalex incorporates a ball-joint articulation that allows the canopy to be tilted up to 90° in any direction. This is especially useful in the early morning or at dusk, when the sun is low and a horizontal parasol does not provide sufficient protection. The tilt is adjusted manually without tools.
It incorporates an integrated gas compression spring in the mast that allows the cover to be raised or lowered by up to 50 cm effortlessly and without tools. The crank height can be adjusted between 146 and 196 cm, compatible with different outdoor furniture heights.

The minimum weight depends on the size: 90 kg for the Ø 300 cm and 285×230 cm formats, and 120 kg for Ø 325 and Ø 350 cm. Glatz offers concrete, granite, and wheeled frame bases to facilitate repositioning. The maximum indicated wind resistance requires a fixed anchor; stability is reduced with a ballast base.

Both are side-pole parasols by Glatz, but the Glatz Sombrano is the higher-range model: it features 360° rotation with pedal included as standard, greater wind resistance (up to 45 km/h versus the Pendalex’s 20 km/h) and more format options. The Pendalex stands out for its continuous height adjustment via gas spring and its omnidirectional articulation up to 90°, making it the most versatile option for residential gardens and terraces with furniture of varying heights.
