Why the Glatz Piazza Parasol is different

Wood appearance with aluminium structure

The Glatz Piazza combines the best of both worlds: the aesthetic warmth of wood and the durability of aluminium. The structure is made of EN-AW-6063-T5 aluminium with powder coating and a 3D wood-effect laminate. The plastic components also feature a 3D wood texture. The result is a parasol with a warm, natural appearance that requires none of the maintenance of a real wood parasol.

Opening via pulley hoist and locking in 3 degrees

The Glatz Piazza opens via a pulley hoist, a fast and simple pulley system. The slider can be locked in four positions for optimum fabric tension in any condition. The canopy is secured by a metal bolt with 3-degree re-tightening, ensuring stability of the cover once positioned.

Up to 75 km/h and suitable for corrosive environments

The Ø 250 cm format of the Glatz Piazza withstands 75 km/h (Beaufort 9) with fixed anchoring, wind-tunnel tested. Grade A4 stainless steel fixings throughout. Suitable for corrosive environments, including coastal and high-density urban installations.

Leather-reinforced corners and artisan details

The fabric corners are reinforced with leather, a handcrafted manufacturing detail that extends the life of the cover and strengthens the aesthetic identity of the model. Available without valance, in three fabric qualities and Glatz Green® fabric on request.

Glatz Piazza Parasol: the warmth of wood with the durability of aluminium

The Glatz Piazza: wood aesthetics without the drawbacks of wood

The Glatz Piazza parasol is a new model in the Glatz range that responds to a recurring demand in residential and hospitality projects: the visual warmth of wood combined with the durability and low maintenance of aluminium. Glatz describes it as a parasol that “combines the warm, natural look of wood with the robustness and strength of aluminium”. The structure is made from EN-AW-6063-T5 aluminium with powder coating and a 3D wood-effect film, including the plastic components. Unlike the Glatz Alexo — which uses real wood — the Piazza delivers the same visual finish without the upkeep that natural wood exposed to the elements requires. Browse the full range of Glatz parasols to compare options.

Available in three formats — Ø 250 cm (4.4 m²), Ø 300 cm (6.4 m²) and 250×250 cm (6.3 m²) — the Glatz Piazza meets the needs of private gardens, residential terraces and concept outdoor spaces where aesthetics are a priority but genuine resistance to outdoor use is required. With a minimum base from 40 kg in the most compact format and certified wind resistance up to 75 km/h in fixed anchoring, the Piazza combines practical functionality with a distinctive aesthetic finish.

Pulley opening system: simple, fast, different

The Glatz Piazza uses a pulley opening system — a quick-action mechanism that differs from both the Push Up system of the Alexo and the cranks found on the aluminium models in the range. The slider, lockable in four positions, ensures optimum fabric tension in any weather condition, and the canopy fixing via a metal bolt with 3 re-tightening settings guarantees stability once the cover is in position. The fabric corners are leather-reinforced, a handcrafted detail shared with the Alexo that extends the service life of the cover. For outdoor spaces requiring greater permanent coverage, bioclimatic pergolas are the usual complementary solution in luxury residential projects.

Suitable for corrosive environments: long-term durability

Unlike a real-wood parasol, the Glatz Piazza is certified for corrosive environments: its aluminium structure with A4 stainless steel hardware resists salinity, humidity, and urban pollution. This makes it a suitable option for seafront terraces or coastal areas where the warm look of wood is desired without the degradation issues that real wood would experience in such an environment. For projects combining the Piazza with other professional outdoor shading elements, the Cortinsa team can advise on the best combination.

Frequently asked questions about the Glatz Piazza Parasol

Is the Glatz Piazza made of real wood or aluminium?

The Glatz Piazza is made of aluminium, not real wood. Its distinguishing feature is that the frame has a powder coating with a 3D wood-effect laminate, including the plastic components. Glatz describes it as a parasol that “combines the warm, natural appearance of wood with the robustness and durability of aluminium”. If you are looking for a real wood parasol, the Glatz Alexo is the genuine ash wood alternative in the Glatz range.

The main advantage is durability and low maintenance. The aluminium structure of the Piazza does not require the periodic upkeep that real wood exposed to the elements demands (varnishing, moisture protection, etc.). In addition, the Piazza is certified for corrosive environments —including coastal and marine areas— where real wood would deteriorate far more quickly.

The Glatz Piazza has been wind-tunnel tested. The Ø 250 cm size reaches up to 75 km/h (Beaufort 9) with fixed ground anchoring. The 250×250 cm size withstands up to 60 km/h and the Ø 300 cm up to 55 km/h. In all cases, these figures require fixed anchoring; with a ballast base, stability is reduced.

The Glatz Piazza uses a pulley opening system. The slider can be fixed in four positions to ensure optimum fabric tension. The canopy is secured by a metal bolt with 3 degrees of re-tightening. This is a different mechanism from the Push Up system on the Alexo and the cranks found on the aluminium models in the range.

Yes. The Glatz Piazza is a new addition to the Glatz range, expressly indicated as NEW in the official Glatz AG technical datasheet. It is a recently launched model that opens a new category in the catalogue: the parasol with a wood appearance and technical aluminium structure. Cortinsa, as official distributor, can advise you on availability and current lead times.

No. The Glatz Piazza protective cover is an optional accessory, not included as standard. The fabric corners are reinforced with leather as standard. The covers are replaceable and interchangeable, allowing you to refresh the look of the parasol without changing the structure.
