Why the Glatz Sombrano Parasol is Different

Synchronised crank opening

The Glatz Sombrano’s crank operates a synchronised opening: the canopy opens and extends simultaneously to a horizontal position in just a few turns. The mechanism is fast, precise and controlled in both directions, with the crank housing, carriage, guide and supporting arm head manufactured in die-cast aluminium.

54° tilt + 360° rotation included as standard

The tilt adjustment bar allows the canopy to be tilted up to 54° on either side. The M4 ball-bearing swivel base with pedal enables 360° rotation and is included as standard — not an optional accessory. Together they allow the shade to be directed in any direction throughout the day without moving the base.

No valance: clean, contemporary design

The Sombrano is available without valance only, reinforcing its contemporary, minimalist line. The fabric self-tensions thanks to the flexible ends of the ribs. A protective cover is included as standard to extend the life of the fabric.

Available in 5 sizes: round, square and rectangular

With formats ranging from Ø 350 cm to 400×300 cm (12.6 m² in round Ø400), the Sombrano covers everything from residential terraces to large contract spaces. Frame in natural anodised aluminium or anthracite powder-coated aluminium.

Glatz Sombrano Parasol: the flagship model with synchronised opening and 360° rotation included

The Glatz Sombrano: benchmark in side-post parasols

The Glatz Sombrano parasol is the flagship model of the Glatz range in side-post parasols. Available in five formats — Ø 350 cm, Ø 400 cm, 300×300 cm, 350×350 cm and 400×300 cm — it covers from 9 m² to 12.6 m² of surface area, adapting to both luxury residential gardens and terraces and contract installations in hospitality and public spaces. Browse our full selection of Glatz parasols to compare the entire range.

The oval-profile 66×95×3 mm aluminium mast, the crank housing, carriage, guide and load-bearing arm head in die-cast aluminium, and the stainless steel fixings are the elements that define the robustness of a structure designed for intensive use. With the frame available in natural anodised aluminium or anthracite powder coating, the Sombrano integrates into any architectural context, from luxury residential projects to fine-dining restaurant terraces.

Synchronised opening and 360° rotating base with pedal included

The synchronised crank opening of the Glatz Sombrano opens and extends the canopy simultaneously to the horizontal position in just a few turns — with no intermediate steps or additional manual adjustments. The M4 ball-bearing pedal rotating base enables 360° rotation and is included as standard on all models, setting the Sombrano apart from other side-post parasols where rotation is an optional accessory. For projects combining parasols with other sun-protection systems, visit our page on hospitality and HORECA solutions.

The tilt adjustment bar allows the canopy to be angled up to 54° on either side, enabling the shade position to be adapted to any sun angle without rotating the entire structure. The combination of rotation and tilt ensures that the side-post parasol provides optimum shade at any time of day and in any terrace orientation.

No valance: functional minimalism in the service of space

The Glatz Sombrano is available without a valance only, a design decision that reinforces its clean, contemporary lines. The fabric self-tensions via the flexible rib ends, always ensuring a uniformly taut canopy without the need for manual adjustment. The protective cover is included as standard, unlike other models on the market where it is a paid accessory. For luxury residential projects where aesthetic detail is a priority, the Sombrano is the most elegant option in the range.

Frequently asked questions about the Glatz Sombrano Parasol

Why is the Sombrano Glatz's star model?

The Glatz Sombrano is the most complete side-pole parasol in the range: it combines synchronous opening, bilateral tilt of 54° and 360° rotation with a pedal included as standard in a single product. It is the only Glatz side parasol to incorporate the rotating base as standard, with no need to purchase it as a separate accessory. Available in five formats from 9 to 12.6 m², it meets the requirements of the majority of Glatz parasol projects.
Yes. The Glatz Sombrano includes as standard the ball-bearing swivel base with pedal M4, which allows 360° rotation of the entire structure. This is not an optional or paid-for accessory. This is one of the main differences compared to other side-post parasols in the Glatz range, such as the Glatz Fortano, where rotation does require an additional accessory.

The Sombrano’s canopy tilts up to 54° on both sides via the integrated tilt adjustment bar. This allows it to adapt to low sun angles —particularly useful at sunset or in winter— without needing to move the base or rotate the parasol.

The Sombrano is available in five formats: Ø 350 cm (9.6 m²), Ø 400 cm (12.6 m²), 300×300 cm (9 m²), 350×350 cm (12.2 m²) and 400×300 cm (12 m²). The Ø 350 and 300×300 formats require a minimum base of 120 kg; the remainder require 180 kg. All formats include the 360° rotating base as standard.

Yes. Its versatility of formats, the elegance of its valance-free design, and the robustness of its structure make it equally suited to luxury residential gardens and terraces and to restaurant, hotel, and contract-space terraces. The Grade 5 polyacrylic fabric — recommended for windy environments — is the most common choice for high-intensity-use installations.

It depends on the size. The Ø 350 cm and 300×300 cm formats withstand up to 45 km/h (Beaufort 6) with fixed ground anchoring. The larger formats (Ø 400, 350×350 and 400×300) resist up to 35 km/h (Beaufort 5). In all cases, these figures apply with fixed anchoring; with a ballast base, wind resistance is lower. Cortinsa will advise you on the most suitable fixing system for each installation.
