Why the Glatz Teakwood Parasol is Different

Noble teak wood: natural, untreated

The Glatz Teakwood is built from natural, untreated teak wood. Teak is one of the most prized noble hardwoods for outdoor use, valued for its natural density, water resistance, and elegant silvery ageing. The Teakwood frame is delivered in its natural state without additional varnish — a weathering process that, far from being a flaw, is an integral part of its aesthetic identity.

Opening via pulley and leather straps

The Teakwood opens via a pulley system: a block-and-tackle mechanism that unfurls the canopy with a smooth, fluid motion. The runner can be fixed at multiple heights to ensure optimum fabric tension according to conditions. The leather straps secure the cord once the parasol is open — a handcrafted detail that underlines the refinement of the whole.

Stainless steel fittings and white leather corner patches

Stainless steel fittings at the ends of the strut ensure durability at the points of greatest structural tension without requiring additional maintenance. The fabric corners are reinforced with white leather — a handcrafted detail that extends the life of the canopy and contrasts elegantly with the warm tones of the teak.

Cover included and available in three formats

Unlike the Alexo, the Glatz Teakwood includes the protective cover as standard. Available in three formats — Ø 300 cm, Ø 350 cm and 330×330 cm — with surface areas between 6.4 m² and 10.9 m². Compatible with Osyrion LED spot lighting with integrated battery.

Glatz Teakwood Parasol: the masterpiece in noble wood for luxury gardens and outdoor spaces

The Glatz Teakwood: natural teak at its finest

The Glatz Teakwood parasol is “the elegant masterpiece in noble wood” of the Glatz range. Unlike the Glatz Piazza —which mimics the appearance of wood using aluminium and a 3D film— or the Glatz Alexo —constructed in ash wood—, the Teakwood is the only parasol in the range manufactured in natural untreated teak wood. Teak is one of the most prized outdoor timbers for its density, its natural resistance to water and insects, and its elegant ageing that gradually acquires silvery tones over time. Available in three formats from 6.4 m² (Ø 300 cm) to 10.9 m² (330×330 cm), the Teakwood covers the majority of private gardens and luxury residential outdoor spaces. Browse the full Glatz parasols range to compare options.

The stainless-steel fittings at the strut ends and the fabric corners reinforced with white leather are the manufacturing details that complete a piece conceived for spaces where outdoor furniture is an expression of taste and lifestyle. The protective cover is included as standard, ensuring the fabric is preserved during periods of non-use and extending the parasol’s service life.

Pulley opening: simple and elegant

The Glatz Teakwood uses a pulley opening system: a tackle block that deploys the canopy smoothly and in a controlled manner, with the slider lockable at several heights to ensure optimal fabric tension. The leather tabs secure the cord once the parasol is open, preventing it from slipping and keeping the parasol perfectly tensioned at all times. The system has no motor or complex mechanisms: it is designed to last decades with minimal maintenance. For spaces requiring greater permanent coverage, bioclimatic pergolas are the standard complementary solution in luxury residential projects.

For design gardens and concept outdoor spaces

The Teakwood teak parasol is not the most wind-resistant model in the range — its certified resistance is 30 km/h across all three formats, with fixed ground anchoring. It is, however, the right choice for sheltered gardens, hotel interior courtyards, villa terraces, and design outdoor spaces where natural aesthetics, the nobility of materials, and the identity of the space are the priority. It is a common choice in luxury residential projects where the parasol forms part of a bespoke integrated garden or terrace project.

Cortinsa, official Glatz distributor in Barcelona and Madrid

As official Glatz distributor in Barcelona and Madrid, Cortinsa advises on the suitability of the teak wood parasol for each project: analysis of wind exposure, the architectural context, and the most appropriate anchoring system. Natural untreated teak wood requires a relatively wind-sheltered environment to ensure long-term durability. For projects combining the Teakwood with other exterior solar protection systems, the Cortinsa team coordinates the integrated proposal from the technical site visit through to installation. Frequently asked questions about the Glatz Teakwood Parasol

Is the Glatz Teakwood made of real wood?

Yes. The Glatz Teakwood is made from natural untreated teak wood. Unlike the Glatz Piazza —which has aluminium with a 3D wood-effect laminate— or the Glatz Alexo —made from ash wood—, the Teakwood uses genuine teak, one of the most noble and durable woods for outdoor use.

Teak is a wood that requires no mandatory treatment to be preserved outdoors. The Glatz technical datasheet states that the Teakwood is supplied in natural, untreated noble teak wood. Over time, if left untreated, teak develops a natural silvery tone. If you prefer to maintain the original warm colour, teak oil can be applied periodically, although this is not essential for structural durability.

The Teakwood is designed for sheltered outdoor spaces, not for terraces regularly exposed to wind. Its maximum certified resistance is 30 km/h (Beaufort 5) with fixed ground anchoring, across all three available formats. This figure requires fixed anchoring; with a ballast base, stability is reduced. For terraces with regular wind exposure, the aluminium models in the Glatz range offer greater resistance.

Yes. The Glatz Teakwood includes a protective cover as standard. As it is a natural wood structure, protecting it when not in use is particularly recommended to extend its service life and preserve the teak’s appearance during periods of lower use or heavy rainfall.

The Teakwood is the usual choice for private design gardens, villa terraces, boutique hotel interior courtyards and luxury residential projects where natural aesthetics and the nobility of materials are a priority. Glatz describes it as “the elegant masterpiece in noble wood”. It is not the right model for high-turnover hospitality terraces or spaces highly exposed to wind.

Both are real wood parasols, but made from different species and available in different sizes. The Glatz Alexo is made from ash wood and is only available in Ø 200 and Ø 220 cm formats. The Glatz Teakwood is made from teak wood and is available in larger formats: Ø 300, Ø 350 and 330×330 cm (up to 10.9 m²). In addition, the Teakwood includes a cover as standard, whereas on the Alexo it is optional. Teak is generally considered a more noble and durable wood than ash for outdoor use.
