Why the Gibus Varia is different

The Gibus Varia is the model in the Gibus family with a symmetrical square module — width and projection share the same range of 200 to 600 cm — and the only one with an XL blade option for greater blade widths. A 31 cm perimeter frame of the same robustness as the Twist, couplable up to 6 bays, and with the same bioclimatic performance as the entire family.

Square module, symmetrical design

The most distinctive feature of the Gibus Varia is its square base module: both width and projection range from 200 to 600 cm with the same span, unlike the Twist whose module is rectangular with a greater width than projection. This square geometry makes the Varia particularly well suited to square-plan exterior spaces where balanced coverage in all directions is required.

XL blade available

The Gibus Varia is the only model in the Gibus bioclimatic family with an XL blade option. The maximum module dimensions may refer to the standard blade or the XL blade — consult the price list for the specific ranges of each option. The XL blade allows larger module widths to be covered with fewer visible blades, for a cleaner visual result.

Up to 6 coupled bays

The Varia can be coupled up to 6 bays with shared posts. In 6-leg modules the coupled projection can reach up to 620–740 cm, and in coupled 4-leg modules up to 603–723 cm, allowing large-scale terraces and exterior spaces to be covered with a coordinated modular structure.

31 cm perimeter frame, same robustness as the Twist

The 31 cm perimeter frame of the Varia matches that of the Twist, delivering the same structural robustness of the premium model in a square format. Posts with a 13 × 13 cm cross-section in powder-coated extruded aluminium.

Adjustable blades 0°–120° and rain protection

The same bioclimatic technology as the entire Gibus family: blades adjustable from 0° to 120°, natural convection ventilation, patented perimeter seal for a watertight enclosure in the closed position, and drainage to downpipes integrated within the posts.

Gibus Varia in operation, bioclimatic pergola with square module and XL blade

Gibus Varia, the bioclimatic pergola with square module and XL blade

The Gibus Varia bioclimatic pergola stands apart from the rest of the family by its square base module — width and projection share the same range of 200 to 600 cm — and by being the only model in the range with an XL blade option. Combining the robustness of the 31 cm frame from the Twist and the versatility of a module that can be coupled up to 6 bays, the Varia is the solution for projects where the square geometry of the space and the visual presence of the structure are decisive factors in the choice. At Cortinsa we install the Gibus Varia in Barcelona and Madrid with manufacturer’s warranty and our own technical team.

Varia versus Twist, when to choose the square module

The Gibus Varia and the Gibus Twist share the 31 cm frame and the same bioclimatic technology, but differ in module geometry. The Twist has a rectangular module where the width can be greater than the projection — ideal for rectangular terraces that need to be covered with greater width than depth. The Varia has a square module where both dimensions range from 200 to 600 cm — ideal for square-plan spaces or for installations where the same dimension is required in both directions. The XL blade option is exclusive to the Varia and is not available on the rest of the range.

XL blade, greater coverage with fewer visible elements

The XL blade option on the Gibus Varia allows the same module to be covered with a smaller number of wider blades, reducing the quantity of visible structural elements on the ceiling and achieving a cleaner, more minimalist visual result. It is particularly valued in contemporary architecture projects where the structure must integrate with the greatest possible discretion.

Frequently asked questions about the Gibus Varia Bioclimatic Pergola

What is the Gibus Varia bioclimatic pergola?

The Gibus Varia is a modular bioclimatic pergola with a symmetrical square module — width and projection from 200 to 600 cm — and the only one in the Gibus family with an XL blade option. 31 cm frame, couplable up to 6 bays.

The Gibus Twist has a rectangular module with a greater width than projection (up to 670 × 600 cm). The Gibus Varia has a symmetrical square module (up to 600 × 600 cm) and is the only one with an XL slat option. Both share the 31 cm frame.

The XL slat is a wider slat available exclusively on the Gibus Varia. It allows the module to be covered with fewer visible slats, for a cleaner visual result. The maximum dimensions vary depending on whether a standard or XL slat is chosen — consult our technical team.

Maximum width of 600 cm and maximum projection of 600 cm per module. By coupling modules, the projection can reach up to 740 cm in 6-leg configurations.

Yes. With the slats in the closed position, the patented sealing system guarantees a watertight cover that channels water to the integrated downpipes in the uprights.
