Why the Markilux 1600 is different

Dynamic rotating protective roof
One-piece oval roof that lowers automatically during retraction, adapting to the awning’s inclination. Closes from above and below, completely covering the roller tube and the front profile.

The protective roof incorporates a joint brush that prevents coarse dirt from entering the awning interior. Particularly relevant on terraces exposed to dust, pollen, or heavy-use environments.

Most semi-cassette awnings leave the roller tube and arms exposed when the awning is extended. The Markilux 1600 semi-cassette awning addresses this with its dynamic oval-shaped protective hood that lowers automatically during the retraction phase, adapting to the awning’s pitch, and completely covers the roller tube along with the front profile. The visual result is that of a full-cassette awning — without actually being one — with the advantage of simpler installation and a slimmer profile on the façade. The Markilux 1600’s protective hood incorporates a sealing brush that prevents coarse dirt from entering the awning interior. The pitch is adjustable between 5° and 50° with no fixed steps, the widest range in the Markilux semi-cassette family. The articulated arms offer two options: twin anticorrosive steel chains or a bionic tendon validated by the Fraunhofer Institute. The Ø 50 mm round steel load-bearing tube, galvanised inside and out, makes it particularly well suited for terrace awnings in coastal areas such as Sitges, Castelldefels, and the Barcelona coastline, where exposure to the marine environment accelerates material degradation.
The optional super-valance deploys vertical protection of up to 350 cm, with manual or motorised operation. The maximum span in single configuration is 710 cm with three articulated arms. For larger surface coverage, the Markilux 1600 is available in coupled configuration: two bays with a single motor and a maximum total span of 1,410 cm. What fabric and hardware colour options does the Markilux 1600 offer?
The fabric is chosen from more than 200 designs from the Markilux Collection One (visutex, suncolours and perla FR fabrics). The hardware is available in traffic white RAL 9016 as the standard colour, and in metallic stone-grey 5215, metallic anthracite 5204, structured Havana brown 5229, structured cream-white 5233, aluminium-white RAL 9006 and grey-brown similar to RAL 8019. Special RAL colours are available at an additional cost. Architects and designers can consult the available finishes through the Cortinsa BIM Library.
What wind resistance class does the Markilux 1600 have?
The Markilux 1600 has wind resistance class 2, equivalent to Beaufort force 5: 28–37 km/h (7.5–10.4 m/s). It is recommended to retract the awning in winds exceeding this or during prolonged absences. For projects in high wind-exposure areas or coastal environments, the galvanised steel load-bearing tube Ø 50 mm provides greater structural stability than aluminium models. If the project requires greater permanent protection, we also install complementary bioclimatic pergolas.
Can the Markilux 1600 be motorised and integrated into a home automation system?
Yes. The Markilux 1600 is available with a standard motor, io 868 MHz remote-controlled motor and RTS 433 MHz motor. In its motorised version it is compatible with Smart Home systems: timer programming and integration with sun and wind sensors. The coupled configuration (two sections, up to 1,410 cm of span) requires motorisation as standard. What is super-shade and when should it be included?
The super-shade is an optional vertical protection element that deploys from the front bar up to 350 cm in height, operating independently from the main awning with manual or motorised actuation. It is particularly useful on west-facing hospitality terraces, where lateral radiation is the main thermal problem once the awning is deployed.
